Blue light therapy is the use of pure blue light for a medical or therapeutic benefit. It has been used to treat acne for almost 40 years.
Many people find that their spots seem better when they have been out in the sunshine*. However ordinary sunlight contains harmful ultraviolet (UVA-UVB) light which can damage skin and even cause skin cancer.
Scientists have proven that visible blue light at a wavelength of 415 nm, as used in LUSTRE, does not cause damage to the skin but is effective in killing P. acnes, the bacteria which cause acne.
LUSTRE ClearSkin has revolutionised the technology previously used, by leading dermatologists in clinics, to make it portable and wearable.

The bacteria that cause acne produce a chemical called porphyrin. When blue light at a specific wavelength is applied to this porphyrin it becomes excited, this active porphyrin has been clinically proven to destroy the bacteria.
LUSTRE ClearSkin Solo treatment harnesses the safe, blue part of the natural visible light spectrum and the technology has been clinically proven to eliminate the bacteria that cause spots whilst also being gentle on the skin.
LUSTRE ClearSkin emits light at 415 nm and does not contain any of the ultraviolet light which can damage skin.
"Blue light has been used by dermatologists for many years to treat acne."
Around 90% of people suffer from acne at some point in their lives, with many experiencing problems beyond their teenage years, and into their 20s, 30s and beyond. The video on the “How LUSTRE works” page explains how the breakthrough treatment harnesses the safe, blue part of the natural visible light spectrum to eliminate the bacteria that cause spots.
