Unlike other types of light therapy, LEDs do not contain ultraviolet rays. Therefore, they’re safe for regular use. You shouldn’t use LED light therapy if you take certain prescriptions such as Accutane or if you’re experiencing skin rashes. Why is my GP not recommending LIGHT THERAPY?

here could be a number of reasons.

It could be linked to whether or not you are suffering from photosensitivity. Photosensitivity (sensitisation to light) is a common side effect of various medications and some herbal remedies as well. You should not use light therapy if you suffer from photosensitivity.

LED Light Therapy has not been tested with pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers, so your GP or midwife may recommend you only start your treatment after the breastfeeding period.

They may recommend against Light Therapy if:

- you have a history of porphyria, solar urticaria, chronic actinic dermatitis, photosensitivity.

- they find any suspicious or cancerous lesions.

- you are taking Amiodarone.

- you are taking any photosensitising treatment.

- you are over or near a recent steroid injection.

- you suspect that you have had an adverse/allergic reaction.
